For those not familiar with Tadao Nakata, he was the owner of Nakata Shoten, Japan’s premier military equipment establishment originally established in the immediate post-war years as a military surplus store. Over the decades, it has evolved into much, much more – Mr. Nakata accumulated an incredible collection of original military equipment and uniforms, and now in addition to surplus, also sells the highest quality reproduction items ranging from Nambu machine guns to WWII Japanese uniforms -- this book shows many of the superb items in Mr. Nakata's personal collection.
Reproduction items from Nakata Shoten, now operated by his son, are displayed in the world’s finest military museums such as the US Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, and the Pacific Aviation Museum at Pearl Harbor.
We worked with Mr. Nakata and found him to be a good, generous man, and prior to this passing, we had him sign a few copies of his book. He was very proud of the book and always was working on a new project, some of which his family continues to pursue.
As can be seen from the accompanying scans, he carefully signed this book in kanji in his office (jam-packed with WWII items) and we now offer the item to the advanced collector – one who can appreciate not only the usefulness of this book but the rarity of Mr. Nakata’s signature in the book -- as far as we know, he never signed any other books than the ones we have.
