Description
19th century Japanese tsuishu (cinnabar lacquer on wood) netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape consisting of two halves. Both sides are carved with karakusa (scrolling vine with leaves) designs. Very good crisp work, obvious losses as can be seen on photos. The inside shows turned wooden body and central fitting serving as himotoshi (loss as seen on photo), inscribed with ink. Very pleasant patina. Diameter 1 1/2 inches.
