Description
Very unique British Jeweler made brooch commemorating the Battleship Nebraska, commissioned in 1907. The ship was a part of the Great White Fleet, and traveled all over the Pacific and Atlantic. She must have visited the UK in 1910 or 1911, as the jeweler's date stamp dates the pin to 1910. With the clasp open, the planchet can be flipped to show the reverse, offering a couple different options for wear. The lid to the finely crafted rosewood box has a small magnifying glass in it, which allows for better viewing of the details on the pin. The underside of the lid has a paper manufacturers label, showing who made it. No major condition issues, however there are some small scuffs and scratches to the pin itself. I could only find one other example online, which commemorates a British ship of the same era. A truly unique piece, I wonder who once owned it perhaps the Captain, or his wife?
